Cary Nelson is president of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP), Jubilee Professor of Liberal Arts and Science and professor of English at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. A well-known scholar-activist, he is an author or editor of twenty-five books and the author of 150 articles. His latest book is No University Is an Island (New York University Press). Before becoming president of AAUP, he served on the AAUP’s national Council for ten years, the last six as second vice president.
